DINING
|
The Steaksmith
"The Steaksmith serves some of the best steaks and seafood in the region, and is our choice for an evening of serious beef-eating. Lots of wood and hanging plants give the dining room a comfortable, relaxing atmosphere, and a big fireplace is the centerpiece of the lounge. This is the place to come for top-quality choice-aged, house-cut beef." --Frommer's Guide
Marigold Cafe & Bakery
"This bustling restaurant and bakery is known for its fresh ingredients and homemade breads and pastries. A low wall separates the bakery counter from the cafelike dining area. Breakfast and lunch are casual, featuring traditional menus and gourmet-savvy items such as Greek pizzas and innovative sandwiches served on fresh breads. The restaurant takes on a more refined atmosphere at dinner, when the menu reflects a wide range of international influences." --Frommer's Guide
Charles Court
'The English country-manor atmosphere of this outstanding restaurant at The Broadmoor resort, with picture windows looking across Cheyenne Lake to the renowned hotel, lends itself to a fine dining experience. The creative American menu, which changes seasonally, has a decidedly Rocky Mountain emphasis. You'll usually find such delicacies as Colorado rack of lamb, beef tenderloin, salmon filet, grilled ahi tuna, and a wild-game selection such as Colorado elk. The wine list includes more than 600 selections, service is superlative, and the desserts are extraordinary. A seasonal outdoor patio provides splendid views of the mountains across the lake." --Frommer's Guide
Blue Star
"In a quiet area just south of downtown, Blue Star is one of the most popular eateries in Colorado Springs, and deservedly so. The menu changes weekly, but it always includes filet mignon, fresh fish (flown in daily), pasta, pork, and chicken, prepared with a nose for invention. The culinary inspiration from both Mediterranean and Pacific Rim cultures; the restaurant might serve Thai beef tips one week and beef bourguignon the next. Standing-room-only on weekends, the bar features sleek wood-and-metal decor and well-lighted artwork on the walls, while the dining room's atmosphere is milder with an open kitchen. Each serves its own menu: The bar one is "eating" (i.e., lunch, dinner, tapas, live jazz Mondays, dancing on weekends) and the main room is serious "dining," dinner only, as the proprietors say. Blue Star won Wine Spectator's "Best of" award with its 6,000-bottle cellar in 2003." --Frommer's Guide
La Petite Maison
A wonderful French restaurant housed in an 1894 Victorian cottage. Jazz plays while delicious food is served.
